I FINISHED SOMETHING

haha. in the midst of my slacking I have finally finished my Hipster. here it is, inside and out, drying on the floor. note... the towel it's drying on is bright green. not gray!

Here is the beginning of my Grace. Very pretty and very soft blue acrylic yarn. It's an old yarn, but I found that I had like a million billion balls of it (okay, like five) and so I rolled it all up into a ball. Note the hugeness of it. It used to be bigger though, I wish I'd gotten a picture when I finished it. After I finished and started knitting and couldn't add on any more, I found that last ball in my desk. I'm so happy! Yarn for free, in a quantity that's actually enough for a project! Not only that, but soft and fuzzy and I liiiike it. Yay. =D

Well, the colors are quite off, but as you can tell I bought three lovely balls of Wool of the Andes - avocado, stream, and mist. Ooooh, it's so soft and pretty! I love it. I know I said I was going to use the Lamb's Pride, but... well, this was just cheaper, and just as pretty. Anyway, this is destined to be my Hipster. =D Hooray.

holy monkey's eyebrow.

wow. I mean WOW. the new fall Knitty. best. Knitty. ever. nearly every pattern in that issue I want to make. seeeeriously, I love them all. especially Josephine, and THIS.

you do not know how amazingly appropriate that pattern is at this exact moment.

I just realized the other day that I have an overabundance of pants that just don't have suitable pockets to schlep stuff around in, and let me tell you folks, I rely very heavily on my pockets for things like that. I cannot carry a purse. I am physically unable to keep up with a purse. thus, if it can't go in my pocket, it ain't comin' with me. well, with keys and a cell that I need to carry around all the time now, I need SOMETHING to carry. so I had envisioned some sort of pouch that would be just the right size for just those items, and a pen and pad or something. I knew I wanted it to be felted, and I knew I wanted it to sit on my hip, because then it would not be a purse and it would instead be a permanent attachment that would double in place of my omnipotent and glorious pocket.

I tried making something. it was 100% wool, and it came out pretty well. but the long and short of it was that it came out WAY too skinny after felting. still not sure what it will be in the end, but not my hip bag.

Hipster has convinced me to finally give in and buy more yarn, because it is my PERFECT HIP POUCH. I'm always reluctant to buy yarn, because (a) I need my money! it is precious to me, and I don't have much! and (b) sometimes I don't wear what I make... and then I've paid lots of money for something that just sits around. but I've always wanted to try Lamb's Pride, and now this is the kicker. this is what gets me to finally spring for it. because THIS IS MY POUCH. it will be my baby, and I will use the heck out of it.

this feels really, really good.

lookit purdy. Posted by Picasa

my graphics software class is SO cold. so, fingerless gloves! sorry the pictures suck again, more webcam pics ^_^;; I'm lazy about pictures. but not about knitting! I made the whole thing up myself as I went - and look, thumb gussets! ~_^ you can ignore the fact one's smaller than the other. Posted by Picasa

surprise!

last weekend I was combing through my sad little stash (years of gifted grandma acrylic... yuck) and found that, much to my happy surprise, I have another full ball of the Cotton-Ease I used for my Asana and that tank! hoooray. ^_^ (which reminds me... I need to get crackin' on finishing my Asana. heh.) anyway, that made me happy.

another somewhat happy surprise: my grandma gifted me with more yarn, but this time instead of acrylic it was 100% wool. *happy happy sigh* my first time ever using wool. it was very very scratchy... I made a little pouch just the right size to hold my cell phone and my keys/college ID, and I'm hoping it will felt a little (last time I checked it, it was fuzzing a little... but the water wasn't very warm, so I'm running it through the super-hot cycle in hopes it may actually felt some). at any rate, on its first wash it got sooo soft, so even if it doesn't felt it will still be lovely to have. =)

I also got a couple skeins of Peaches 'n Creme cotton from Wal-mart last time I went. I like it a lot. I've made one of a pair of fingerless gloves out of half a ball of it - hoping to get both gloves out of one ball. they're super cozy but light and unobtrusive - just what I was looking for. they're just basic lil' fingerless gloves (with a THUMB GUSSET! that I figured out all by myself! go me!) for my Intro to Graphics Software class - the Mac lab is sooo cold, but I have to be able to type. so. =D I've been making a lot of things sans pattern lately... maybe one of these days I'll try a sweater or something. =P

anyway. that's about it.

I love surprises. ^_^

stuff!

I've been trying to get some pictures for the longest. finally, here are some. sorry they're crummy webcam pictures, I'll try to do better next time!

top to bottom: back of el X-back Secundo. (and me and my bad/fake Spanish.)

front of my second x-back, which is LB Incredible in blue shades. also me being incredibly silly. =P

a silly little wristband I made a long while ago. it says 'ST' and has an ikkle bunny in the middle. it's a spirit wristband for my social tribe at school. =)

the first thing I've ever made without a pattern! ^_^ it's just a regular lil' tank top in LB Cotton-ease in mint. I love that yarn. I wish I could get more. anyway, it's a basic 2x2 rib front and back, with a few little cables up front. I crocheted around the neckline and armholes. it's a little shorter than I'd like it to be... I think I'm plagued with that problem. but it looks hawt with my Aeropostale pants, so it's cool.

okay, so that's it.

less stitching, a lot more of the other thing.

well, Asana is coming along rather steadily. just a few more rows of the hated garter rib and two little blocks more, and I'll be done with all the knitting. sorry I haven't any pictures at the moment, the focus right now is on surviving work. heh.

ah, the leftover yarn from Asana... despite me being absolutely sure I had the right yardage comparison before I bought my sub yarn (Lion Brand Cotton Ease, in case you forgot), I bought two extra balls by mistake. luckily it was only $3 a piece, so after shipping it cost $20 altogether. which is Not Bad for yarn. but... now I have extra yarn that I want to do a million things with, but not enough for a million things.

I guess I'll just have to buy more.

progress. and books!

wow. Asana is FLYING. I never imagined that something on size US6 and 7 could knit up so fast, but I'm already up to the top band. whee! I hate garter rib, but it means I'm almost done! =D

in other news, I finally went to the library again for the first time in years, and checked out two knitting books. one is very old, and has both crochet and knit stitch patterns in it (which is cool, I crochet too). the other one is The Knitter's Bible by Claire Crompton. it's got some really nifty stitch patterns in it, and some reeeeally nice cable and lace patterns. plus helpful hints on how to do certain techniques and such. quite nice. I wouldn't want to buy it, but it was (for me) worth a few readthroughs and scribbling down some of the stitch patterns, so I'm glad the library had it.

whee! okay, back to knitting. =P

and an Asana in progress. my camera chewed it up so bad! oh well, it's really lovely and it's so much fun to knit, even though the endless stockinette seems like it ought to be a pain. I'm into the bodice increases now. the yarn is Lion Brand Cotton-Ease, which is really dreamy for me to work with as I've only ever used one other yarn that wasn't acrylic! such lovely drape... *drool* Posted by Hello

side view of Skully. logo the second. logo for the Golden Rhinos. it wraps around my arm so you can hardly see it, but the chart really rocked, and I was proud of it. ^_^;; Posted by Hello

side view of Skully, logo the first. logo for the Rokkaku Group. Posted by Hello

finished Skully. I used my own charts; these are logos from a video game called Jet Grind Radio. my SO got me hooked. =) he loves this sweater, too. hee! Posted by Hello

back shot of the X-back. in this picture you can see the cincher ribbon a little better. I love how this came out in the end. I still want to add a little to the bottom but I love the fit and the feel and the fact that I made something so freakin' sexy! Posted by Hello

front view of my X-back. much better pictures than the original shots I took! these don't make me look fat! =D Posted by Hello

yeah. so, the two pictures below are my triumphant sock the first! let's everybody cheer, and then curse the flash that drowns out alllll of my pictures. I hate that... but hey. it's cool. anyway, kitchener. didn't faze me. the thing that did... all the ends from those stripes! the sock is one of two Pippi Kneestockings from SnB. the second is just going to have to wait until after exams. and in about three thousand years when I finally get over the RSI I know this gave me.

and what's this? even though the quality sucks... oh my goodness! yes, it is! it's successful and gorgeous kitchener, done precisely right on my first try and very quickly to boot! now, who was that that said it was hard? man, whoever that was needs to be taken outside and taught how to do kitchener with a wet noodle! =P Posted by Hello

oh my! what's this? can it be?! a sock! sock the first is done! let us all celebrate. Posted by Hello

so I did it.

well, after one of my greymatter files RANDOMLY DISAPPEARED from my other webhost's server, i only knit scarves moves to its new, most likely permanent home on blogger. holy cow, that host had terrible service. I'm so glad to be out of there.

in other news... almost done with sock the first. picturing and such to ensue when I get around to it. BloggerBot for hello is another reason I came over to blogger for IOKS. I can be, you know, lazy. =)
